Salkantay Trek Route
The terrain will be different for the different days on your Salkantay trek as well as bring different depending on which Salkantay trek you’ve booked. The following information is for a typical 4 day Salkantay trek.


1 Day: Cusco – Mollepata – Marcoccasa – Challabamba – Soray Pampa
We’ll begin our hike at Marcoccasa. From here we will hike about 3 hours to Challabamba, where we will enjoy a nice lunch. From here we will hike for another 4 hours until we arrive to Soray Pampa (3850m), where we will set up our camp and eat dinner.
Distance travelled: 19 km
Walking time: 7 hours
Day 2: Soray Pampa – Salkantay Pass – Huayraqmachay – Chaullay
From Soray Pampa we have to hike for 3 hours until we reach the Salkantay Pass (4650m). From the Salkantay pass we descend for two hours until we reach Huayraqmachay (3800 m) to enjoy a nice lunch. After the lunch our hike continues 3 hours downhill to Chaullay (2850).
Distance travelled: 20 km
Walking time: 8-9 hours
Day 3: Chaullay – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes
From Chaullay we will hike for 5 hours to Playa where lunch awaits us, the road will go up and down all the way. After lunch we will be transported from Playa to Hidroelectrica by bus. From there you will continue on foot to Aguas Calientes for 3 hours along train tracks.

Walking time: 6 hours
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo - Cusco
From Aguas Calientes we will hike for 1.5 hours up to Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour and time to visit Machu Picchu on our own. We will take a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes, take the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo, and then you’ll be picked up from Ollantaytambo and brought to the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.

Walking time: 1.5 hours
